Freeware

Freeware is proprietary licensed, typically closed source, software which is made available free of charge by the copyright-holder. In some cases, copyright-holders of freeware software may allow others to distribute their software too.

Freeware should not be confused with free software as defined by the Free Software Foundation.

Freeware is software that is made available free of charge, where the source code is usually not available, and where redistribution may or may not be permitted.
Free Software as defined by the Free Software Foundation, is software that provides a number of freedoms. Copies of such software may be sold, the source is broadly available, and redistribution is permitted.
