Advertising ClauseAn advertising clause is requirement that may appear in some software licenses, including some FLOSS licenses. Such clauses generally require crediting the original author, either in the software itself, or in associated documentation, (sometimes a particular form of credit may be specified). Advertising clauses usually apply whether distributing the software unmodified, or in a modified form. Despite their otherwise highly permissive nature, some permissive licenses may contain such advertising clauses, and purely as a result of those clauses, be incompatible with some other FLOSS licenses.
