Proprietary LicensesProprietary Licenses are licenses where the copyright-holder maintains relatively strict control over their material, for example by restricting redistribution or modification or access to the source code (although some proprietary licenses may allow these activities). The phrase is often used to contrast these types of licenses from open source licenses, which generally provide the licensees with more freedom over what may be done with the software. On the whole, most proprietary licenses are specific to the product or company in question, however they may be subdivided into some common categories (it is possible that a particular license may fall into more than one category).
